The short answer: Claude has a free plan, Pro costs €18 a month (€15 billed annually), Max €90, Ultra €180, and a Team seat starts at €18. Every price comes from Anthropic’s pricing page, retrieved from Germany on 3 November 2026. Anthropic lists them excluding applicable taxes. Below: what each plan includes, how the usage limits work, and what none of the plans give you.
If you’re outside the eurozone, the pricing page shows your local currency. In the US, Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed annually), Max $100 and Ultra $200.
Prices at a glance
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | €0 | Trying it out, occasional questions |
| Pro | €18 | €15 a month (€180 up front) | Regular use, Claude Code |
| Max | €90 | not offered | Five times Pro’s usage |
| Ultra | €180 | not offered | Ten times Pro’s weekly usage |
| Team Standard | €21.04 per seat | €18 per seat per month | Teams of 2 to 150 people |
| Team Premium | €105.23 per seat | €90 per seat per month | Five times Standard’s usage |
| Enterprise | on request | from $20 per seat, at least 20 seats | Companies, usage billed on top at API rates |
Excluding taxes means something may be added at checkout. With Germany’s 19% VAT, Pro would come to €21.42 a month. The odd monthly Team prices appear exactly like that on the pricing page. The self-serve Enterprise rate is shown only in US dollars, even on the German page.
The Max 5x and Max 20x plans you may know from older articles no longer exist in that form. The tier with five times the usage is now simply Max, and Ultra sits above it.
What each plan includes
| Free | Pro | Max | Ultra | Team | |

How the usage limits work
Claude doesn’t count messages, it counts usage, which depends on the model and the length of the work. According to Anthropic’s help page there are two limits:
- Five-hour window: it starts with your first message. Five hours later your full allowance is back.
- Weekly limit: it applies across all models, and some plans have a separate weekly limit for Fable. It resets once a week at a fixed time.
claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the mobile apps and Claude Code all draw from the same pool. A day spent in the terminal leaves less for chat in the evening. On Ultra, verified accounts have no five-hour window, only the weekly limit. When you hit a limit, you wait, change plans, or on a paid plan keep going with usage credits at API rates.
What Claude Free can do
More than most people assume. You get Sonnet and Haiku, up to five projects, memory, web search and connectors. One custom connector is allowed too, exactly one: that’s enough to plug an external memory or another tool into Claude over MCP on the free plan. What’s missing: Opus, Claude Code, Research, search across past chats, and above all headroom. Usage is capped per five hours and per week, and Anthropic publishes no fixed numbers.
Claude Code: which plan you need
The pricing page says Claude Code is included in every paid plan, so from Pro upwards. There is no Claude Code on the free plan. It shares its allowance with chat. If you need more, you have two routes: Max or Ultra, or a Console account billed by usage at API rates, separately from the subscription. One catch is spelled out in Anthropic’s Claude Code help: the monthly API credits that come with Max and Ultra can’t be used in Claude Code or the Claude apps. They’re meant for your own applications on the Claude Platform.
Team and Enterprise
Team starts at two seats and goes up to 150. Standard and Premium seats can be mixed, and Premium brings five times the usage. On top come shared projects, enterprise search, and model training that is off by default. On the individual plans from Free to Ultra you have to opt out of training yourself. Enterprise is either self-serve (from $20 per seat per month, billed annually, at least 20 seats, usage added at API rates) or through sales.
Which plan fits
- Free if you use Claude now and then and don’t miss Opus.
- Pro once you hit limits or want Claude Code. Paying annually saves €36 a year.
- Max if Pro slows you down several times a week, usually because of Claude Code.
- Ultra if you work in Claude Code all day and the five-hour window gets in the way.
- Team when several people need to share projects and an admin has to manage the accounts.
If you regret a purchase: according to the pricing page, in the EEA and the UK you can request a refund in the app within the 14-day withdrawal period. The pricing page lists no discount for individual students. There is an Education plan that universities buy for their students and staff.
What no plan includes
Whichever plan you pick, Claude’s memory stays with Claude. According to Anthropic, each project has its own memory, plus one for chats outside projects. What Claude learns in one project, it doesn’t know in the next. None of it reaches ChatGPT, Cursor or Mistral Vibe. And your documents are only available in the project you uploaded them to, with no citation for what Claude remembers from them. There’s more on this in the Claude memory guide.
That isn’t a gap in one particular plan. Ultra at €180 doesn’t change it either. A memory across projects and AI apps comes from outside, through a connector. Memexa is one: notes, PDFs and scans become a linked knowledge graph hosted in the EU, and Claude cites it down to the page. It costs from €2.99 a month (all plans) and works with Claude Free, because the free plan allows one custom connector. Setup is in Set up Memexa in Claude. If you also use ChatGPT: Give ChatGPT and Claude the same memory.
